Assam MP urges PM to expedite art history institute
Guwahati, Feb 13 (UNI) Assam Lok Sabha member N C Borkataky has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, also Rajya Sabha MP from the state, to expedite the setting up of a National Institute of Art History here.
In a letter to Dr Singh recently, Mr Borkataky mentioned that a plot of 50 bighas of land was allotted at Amingaon, near here, by the state government in this regard, while the Union Culture department also sanctioned some amount for the purpose.
The institute is to be set up on the basis of a proposal submitted to the National Museum Institute by the Indian Art History Congress. The Lok Sabha MP urged the prime minister to approve the proposal as it would benefit the entire NE region as well as Dr Singh's 'adopted' state of Assam.
Mr Borkataky, in the same letter, also requested Dr Singh's intervention in completing the third phase of National Museum building at the earliest.
