Students protest against desecration of memorial

Ramanathapuram, Feb 12 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Ramanathapuram town today, as a section of the Government Arts College students, resorted to 'road roko' and pelted stones at police in protest against the alleged desecration of memorial of an Adi Dravida leader at Paramakudi near here.

Police sources said the memorial of Adi Dravida leader Immanuel Sekharan was found damaged last evening.

The students withdrew their stir after the police team, led by Superintendent of Police R Thirugnanam, assured them that the police would investigate the matter.

However, some students pelted stones at the cops from their college campus, for which the police warned them of severe action.

Police pickets had been posted near the college and the memorial to prevent any untoward incidents.
