Literacy prog for civic reps: Minister

Hyderabad, Feb 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Adult Education and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan M Hanumantha Rao today said the department has been taking up a pilot project for training illiterate members of civic bodies in the state.

Replying to a question from G Rudra Raju (Cong) in the Legislative Council, he said as per the available data, there were about 73,238 illiterate representatives in civic bodies.

He said instructions were issued to Preraks and mandal-level officials to take up literacy programmes on a priority basis.
