Sainiks blacken sign boards at Chhatrapati Shivaji airport
Mumbai, Feb 10 (UNI) Following Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray's statement that his party would not allow Mumbai Airport Authority to advertise its companies, a group of Shiv Sainiks today blackened six sign boards put up at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Domestic Airport here.
Speaking to UNI, Airport Officers Union president and secretary of Shiv Sena backed Bharitya Kamagar Sena Kiran Pawaskar said, ''The Shiv Sainiks are only implementing orders of Mr Uddhav Thackeray, who had yesterday said that the sign boards at the airport should carry 'Mumbai welcomes you' and not any other text like MIAL or GVK welcomes you.'' Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) is a consortium of Hyderabad-based infrastructure company, GVK, Airport Authority of India and Airport Company of South Africa, formed for the modernisation and expansion of Mumbai Airport.
Mr Pawaskar said it was only a symbolic reaction, and warned the MIAL, that if it did not change the sign boards' text, the party would blacken all such sign boards.
MIAL spokesperson Manish Kalghati refused to comment over the issue.
