Police arrest suspected gramin bank looters
Barrackpore, Feb 10 (UNI) Police arrested five people a from Naihati market and recovered Rs 3.8 lakh, believed to be stolen from Hemtabad's Gramin bank.
The vehicle they were in, a Tata Sumo, that might have been used during the dacoity, was also seized.
All the accused were today produced before a local court, which rejected their bail petitions.
The five including the driver of the car were arrested, as they were returning from North Bengal after committing the crime.
The state was alerted after Hemtabad's Bangiya Gramin Vikas Bank was looted on early February 8.
Meanwhile, a police team from Hemtabad circle near Raigunj landed here last night to take the accused in their custody for investigation, seeking a transit remand from the court where all the five accused, Mukaram Ahmed, Rajendra Patel, Raju Patel, Ganesh Shaw and Uttam Shaw, the driver, were produced.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate In-Charge of the holiday court, Nachiketa Bera rejected their bail plea and kept in abeyance the petition for transit remand filed by the Raigunj district police till February 13.
Police said that altogether Rs 13,75,050 was looted from the Bangiya Gramin Vikas Bank.
