PM to lay foundation for medical colleges in Assam
Guwahati, Feb 09 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation for new medical colleges in Assam in March.
Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, informing this here today, adding that the final dates would be fixed with consultation with the PMO.
The prime minister would lay foundation for the medical colleges at Tezpur and Jorhat, after Congress president Sonia Gandhi had earlier laid the stone for the third medical college at Barpeta.
The Health Minister informed that Rs 162 crore for each of the medical college has already been sanctioned and Rs 30 crore each has also be released.
''The state government will bear all expenses,'' he said adding construction would commence immediately after Dr Singh's visit and it would be over by 2010, Dr Sharma said.
