Major fire breaks out at PCA stadium, Mohali

Mohali, Feb 9 (UNI) A major fire broke out at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium here today causing damage worth lakhs of Rupees, fire sources said here today.

However, no loss of life was reported in the fire which apparently broke out due to the welding work going on in the 'AC lounge area' above the media box at the stadium.

The fire engulfed the false ceiling and furniture of the AC lounge.

''We rushed the fire tenders, snorkels and fire fighters immediately on getting the information about the incident at around 1330 hrs,'' Mohali fire station Officer (FSO) Avtar Singh told UNI.

The blaze turned fierce due to strong winds and it took over two hours for the three fire tenders to control the inferno, he said.

However, the exact cause of the fire would be known later, Mr Singh stressed.
