Fishermen threaten fresh stir over ban on sea leeches
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Feb 8 (UNI) Fishermen have threatened to launch a fast-unto-death stir on February 15 if the Centre did not lift the ban on fishing sea leeches.
Sources said following an agitation by the Federation of Fishermen's Associations at New Delhi and the subsequent high-level talks, the Centre gave an assurance to lift the ban in a month's time.
Since, there was no hint of any action being taken on the issue, the fishermen decided to hold the fresh agitation.
According to the association, more than a lakh of fishermen in the Coastal Districts of Ramanathapuram,Pudukottai, Nagapattinam and Tuticorin had been affected by the ban.
