Bangalore, Feb 8(UNI) Defence Ministry has cleared the decks for export of defence products and it was expected to give a big boost to various public sector defence organisations producing highly sophisticated and quality products including surface-to-surface Akash missiles and various radar systems produced in the country.

Disclosing this to newspersons here, Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) Chief Controller (R and D) Dr Prahalad said the Defence Ministry had permitted export of products developed and produced and it would give a big boost to the PSUs involved in development and production of these products.

"With the Ministry clearing the decks, DRDO will launch a special drive for exports and already about 30 countries have been approached", he added.

Replying to a question, he said that various countries had approached the DRDO and wanted to know the procedures and timeframe for supply of defence products. "It involves time taking procedures including clearance from governments of both importing and exporting countries. However, we may be in a position to start exporting with in one year," he said.
