Tension at hamlet over burning of fishing net
Puducherry, Feb 5 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Nallavadu fishermen hamlet near here as 13 fishing nets were burnt by unidentified persons last night.
According to fishermen, they kept the nets ready last night for venturing into the sea early in the morning. However, when they came to take the net, 13 nets were found burnt, causing a loss of several lakhs of rupees.
None of the fishermen from the village ventured into the sea and all of them gathered at the community hall.
Meanwhile, Nallavadu (North) Panchayat President Subramanian lodged complaints at Reddichavady and Thavalakuppam police stations in this connection.
Armed police pickets were posted in the village to prevent any untoward incidents, police said.
