Kashmiri woman held in Delhi for stealing bag

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) A Kashmiri woman has been arrested after she was captured by a close circuit television (CCTV) while stealing a bag of an American national from Dilli Haat some days ago, police said today.

Police said 42-year-old Shameema, wife of a Kashmiri shawl vendor and at present residing in a rented accommodation at Chandni Chowk in the walled city, was arrested for stealing the bag of a handicapped American woman, identified as Amanda from Dilli Haat on January 27.

They said the American woman had lodged a theft complaint with the Sarojini Nagar police station. The CCTV installed at Dilli Haat had captured the Kashmiri woman stealing the bag of the American national.

The photograph of the Kashmiri woman was circulated among the stall owners. On February three, she was again spotted at Dilli Haat and accordingly the police informed.

The Kashmiri woman initially denied stealing the bag, but later confessed to the theft when the CCTV footage was shown to her.

Police seized Rs 3500 from her possession.
