Agartala, Feb 5: To ensure free and fair holding of polls in Tripura, the Election Commission (EC) has imposed some restrictions on political parties and ordered them to submit the list of leaders who will work as state-level campaigners for the particular party.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Chief Electoral Officer G S G Ayyanger said the commission had instructed the state poll panel to inform all the political parties about the order and the state authorities would hold a meeting in this regard on February 8.

''On the date of election, the candidate will get security only under the jurisdiction of his constituency, as he or she will not be allowed to move to other parts of the state as part of transparency management of the election,'' he said.

The state election authority had already issued letters to the recognised political parties to submit their detailed campaign plans along with the names of their state-level campaigners while asking the political parties to take prior permission from the concerned Returning Officer with route and other details, if they wanted to use it for political purposes.

He made it clear that as per the EC guidelines, the state poll panel had the authority to mobilise the police to restrict the movement of the party and seize the vehicles if it was not approved by the Returning Officer.
