MLA quits party 15 days before election
Agartala, Feb 4 (UNI) Days before the assembly polls senior Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura(INPT) member Animesh Debbarma quit it alleging undemocratic practices and joined the newly formed National Conference of Tripura(NCT).
Condemning the role of the state Congress and tribal-based opposition party INPT, Debbarma said the NCT, another tribal based party, would take on the Left in the February 23 election.
He said the NCT was in favour of an anti-Left alliance and had demanded only two seats from the Congress, "but the INPT had unauthorisedly opposed the move".
However, the INPT opposed the 'separate agreement' between the Congress and NCT.
INPT general secretary Rabindra Debbarma said his party had earlier reached an agreement with the Congress for 11 seats and announced their nomination. The fresh move of seat sharing with the NCT would make an adverse impact on the opposition's vote he maintained.
