Ledger's family to hold private Perth funeral

Melbourne, Feb 4 : Heath Ledger's family will hold a private funeral in his hometown of Perth before he is laid to rest at Karakatta Cemetery in the family plot.

A source has revealed that Ledger's parents, Kim and Sally, have declined an offer from his former high school, Guildford Grammar, to hold a public memorial service in its chapel, reports News.com.au.

However, the school's chapel might still be used if the Ledger family opts for a public memorial service in the future.

Guildford Grammar's director of community relations, Graeme Plumber, said that the school understood why the actor's family took the decision of holding a private funeral.

The school thought that his family probably wanted 'the dignity of a very private funeral after all the publicity' surrounding his death.

It is unclear whether Ledger's ex-fiance Michelle Williams and their daughter Matilda will fly to Perth for the funeral.

Ledger's 'Brokeback Mountain' co-star Jake Gyllenhaal, who is Matilda's godfather, is expected to make the journey.
