Gagangiri Maharaj dies at age of 102

Kolhapur, Feb 4 (UNI) Well-known religious Guru Gagangiri Maharaj passed away due to old age at Khopoli in Raigad district today. He was 102.

Devotees of Gagangiri Maharaj are spread across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and other places in the country.

He belongs to a royal family in village Nivakane in Patan Tehsil of Satara district in Maharashtra.

Maharaj lost his mother at the age of three and father at the age of five and at the age of seven he joined some Sadhus, who had gathered at Shirala in Sangli district. Then he went to Haridwar with the Sadhus and studied while wandering across the country.

Later, he came to Gaganbavada Tehsil of the district, where he set up his ''Math'' at a hilly place and became well known as Gagangiri Maharaj.

Large number of devotees including politicians used to visit him here.
