CPI condemns attack on Economist Jean Dreze in Rajasthan
New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) The CPI has strongly condemned the attack on Jean Dreze, an economist of great repute, and several others who were part of the Social Audit teams of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(NREGS) in Rajasthan.
The party in a press statement issued here today has said local authorities opposed the activists asking information under the NREGS guidelines. Social Audit is a guarantee for the successful implementation of the NREGS.
The party, while expressing its concern over such incidents happening in other places also, urged the government concerned to extend cooperation and protection to the activists who work for the poor people with commitment, the release added.
