Lucknow, Feb 4 (UNI) Denouncing the Mayawati-led Uttar Pradesh government for its decision of handing over the police recruitment scam case to the CBI, Samajwadi Party state president Shiv Pal Singh Yadav today said the Chief Minister was conspiring to trap SP leaders on false charges due to political vendetta.

While addressing a press conference here, Mr Yadav said it was an politically motivated act of BSP, they had done nothing wrong while making police recruitments during their regime.

He said Chief Minister Mayawati was herself running a corrupt regime and a CBI inquiry should be initiated against her.

Mr Yadav charged BSP with plotting against the SP leaders and said ''Mayawati is trying to trap SP in fake charges, when she failed to figure us in PWD scam she opted for police recruitment case.'' Dubbing the matter as 'sensitive', the UP government today recommended handing over the infamous police recruitment scam case, which had taken place during the earlier Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in the state, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The decision of the CBI probe was decided upon on the basis of the report of the committee headed by state Chief Secretary which was constituted vide cabinet decision on October 4 last year the UP CM said.

Prima facie the involvement of senior politicians like former PWD minister Shiv Pal Yadav and the then Director General of Police (DGP) had been noted.

Ms Mayawati -- when asked why the case was referred to CBI instead of entrusting the probe to some state agency -- said she would not like to invite blame of any political vendetta behind the inquiry, hence, the decision to go for a CBI probe was made.
