Kolkata, Feb 4 : Members of the All Burma Students League (ABSL) on Monday staged a demonstration alleging that 34 nationals of Burma were 'illegally detained' in India since 1998.

The ABSL staged a demonstration outside Bankshall Court here alleging that the 34 were denied a fair trial and the basic rights guaranteed under international human rights laws while, two others went missing at the time.

"Over 34 persons are in Indian jails for the last ten years. We are demanding the closure of cases pending in courts," said Zaw Zaw, secretary of the ABSL.

The student league claimed that the Central Bureau of Investigation had alleged that the Burmese nationals were providing guns to the insurgents in the north-eastern states.
