Bandh in MP town to demand central univ status for Sagar Univ
Sagar, MP, Feb 3 (UNI) A bandh, called by the Nagrik Sangharsh Morcha (NSM), in support of the demand for granting Dr Harisingh Gour University, Sagar, status of a central university was completely successful.
Shops and business establishments, including petrol pumps and medicine shops, remained closed during the bandh. Token sit-ins and demonstrations were organised at various places in Sagar division.
Stray incidents of stone pelting on some trains took place but the government railway police sprung into action and made arrangements for trains to move ahead smoothly.
Railway police said inquiry would be held into stoning on the Rajkot Express and action be taken.
NSM convenor and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party President Raghu Thakur said pressure would be created regarding the demand during next Parliament session.
The Sagar University was established in 1946. The Madhya Pradesh Government has sent a proposal to the Centre to grant the university status of central university.
