Rio demands reinstatement of DAN govt in Nagaland
Kohima, Feb 2 (UNI) Leader of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Neiphiu Rio has demanded the revocation of President's rule in Nagaland and restoration of the DAN government in the state.
Addressing mediapersons here yesterday, Mr Rio said the DAN alliance enjoyed majority in the tenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly, since the Supreme Court had rejected two writ petitions of nine rebel MLAs of the Nagaland Peoples' Front (NPF) and three Independent MLAs against the interim order passed by Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie.
The Bench, headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice Raveendran, dismissed the writ petitions as not maintainable, devoid of merit and legal technicalities.
The respondents were C S Vadyanathan, former Additional Solicitor General C Paramasivaar, while senior advocate and spokesperson of the Congress Abhishek Singhvi, appeared for the 12 MLAs.
In a representation to the Nagaland Governor, the DAN leader reiterated the resolutions adopted on January 14 and urged the Governor to revive the tenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly from its suspension animation in view of the latest Supreme Court's decision in its two writ petitions on February 1.
