GM India January 2008 sales up by 46 pc

New Delhi, Feb 1: Detroit-based General Motors today said its India sales in January 2008 has grown by 46 per cent to 5,517 units as against 3,776 units corresponding period last year. The January 2008 sales comprise of 1,391 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1,174 units of Chevrolet Aveo, 217 units of Chevrolet Optra, 2,639 units of Chevrolet Spark and 96 units of the recently launched Chevrolet Captiva, the company said in a statement.

''The consistent surge in monthly sales is a clear indication of the success of all our carlines and demonstrates the fact that our flagship brand Chevrolet has been well accepted by the market and is growing from strength to strength'', said Vice President, GM India P Balendran. The company has recently launched Chevrolet Captiva, a premium sport utility vehicle powered by a diesel powertrain engine.

During 2007 General Motors India witnessed a record annual growth of 68 per cent by clocking sales of 60,032 units in the calendar year as against 35,823 units during 2006.
