Absconding Lok Sabha MP from Allahabad, wanted for murder, arrested

{image-MP atiq ahmad_01022008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, Feb 1: Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Atiq Ahmad, carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, has been arrested by the Delhi Police from Pitampura area of North-West Delhi. Wanted in 47 cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion and Arms Act Atiq Ahmad had been on the run for the last eight months, said Jt Commissioner (Special Cell) Karnal Singh.

''He had been hopping between Delhi, Noida, Faridabad and Mumbai.'' The MP was arrested last evening, following a tip-off, at about 1430 hrs while he was coming to meet someone in Pitampura. ''No arms or ammunition was seized from his possession.'' One of the prime suspects in the BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, Atiq was released on bail after his arrest following the murder.

Ever since he had been wanted in connection with threatening witnesses. On why was he arrested in Delhi despite no case against him here, the Jt CP said he was a proclaimed offender and they wanted to know whether he had come here to set up a base.
