5 women killed, 6 hurt as auto hits bus

Eluru (Andhra Pradesh), Feb 1: Five women were killed and six seriously injured when the autorickshaw in which were travelling collided with a Road Transport Corporation bus near Gundugolanu village on Chennai-Kolkata National Highway, 25 km from here today.

According to police, around 13 women, all agricultural labourers, were proceeding from Gundugolanu village in West Godavari district to attend work at Madepalli when the autorickshaw running on the wrong side of the four-lane highway, collided with the bus.

Four women died on the spot while another succumbed to her injuries at hospital. Those seriously injured were admitted to the Alluri Sitaramaraju Medical Sciences (ASHRAM) Hospital here.

The bodies of the victims had been sent to Eluru Government Hospital for post-mortems, police added.
