TN Assembly thanks Centre for sanctioning Tamil institute
Chennai, Jan 31 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly today passed a resolution, thanking the Centre for sanctioning Rs 76.32 crore for setting up a Central Institute of Classical Tamil in the city with the Chief Minister as its ex-officio Chairperson.
Reading out the resolution, State Finance Minister K Anbazhagan thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister for Human Resource Arjun Singh for sanctioning the Institute.
The Institute would preserve Classical Tamil and ensure its development, which was an integral part of the country's composite heritage, he said.
Congress MLA Peter Alphonse, PMK Legislator G K Mani, CPI(M) MLA N Nanmaran and Communist Party of India MLA T Ramasamy also thanked Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his initiative to set up the Institute.
