PM to lay foundation stone for hydroelectric project in Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar, Jan 31 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone for the 3,000 MW Debang multipurpose hydroelectric project here today.
To be set up by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) at a cost of Rs 17,656 crore, this hydropower-cum-flood moderation project envisages construction of a 288-meter high concrete gravity dam and an underground powerhouse.
During his two-day visit, Dr. Singh will also lay the foundation of five major projects, including the Harmoti-Itanagar railway line.
Before leaving for Kibitho in Anjaw, he will also visit Ramakrishna Mission Hospital.
Kibitho is the second meeting point of Indian and Chinese army opened just before the Chinese President's visit to India in November 2006.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to unveil the statue of Indira Gandhi and formally inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan housing the state Congress headquarters.
