Passport officer Tiruchirapalli S Balachandran told newspersons here yesterday that if the proposed system comes into force, both the applicants as well the officials in the passport office would be benefitted by saving their time considerably, besides redressing the grievances of the respective applicants.
He said if an appointment was given for an applicant, the applicant's file and other details would be placed on his table and in turn he would call the concerned applicant and solve his grievance across the table.
Mr Balachandran also introduced 'one visit scheme', under which the fresh applicants would be granted passport after required verifications on the same day but, it would be issued only after the police verification.
Under this new system, as many as 9,190 applications were received during last 30 days, he added.
He pointed out that the Joint Secretary of the Union External Affairs Ministry, hailed his efforts and asked a detailed report to follow the similar system in other passport offices of the country.
He said efforts were on to build a building to house the passport office which was now functioning in the rental accommodation.
