Kerala HC directs TDB to dispose of pending matters within 6 weeks

Kochi, Jan 31 (UNI) The Kerala high court today expressed concern about the functioning of the Travancore Devaswom Board(TDB), which administers major temples in the state, and directed it to dispose of all pending matters within six weeks.

A division bench, comprising Justices P R Raman and V K Mohanan, passed the order after counsel for the Board undertook that all matters will be disposed of within six weeks.

Expressing concern over the manner in which the Board was functioning, the court said that even in the matter of convening the Board meeting, let alone decisions to be taken, there was a sharp difference of opinion among the Board constituents, which was not a healthy trend.

Passing the order on a public interest petition filed by one Raveendran Pillai, the court said that it was desirable for the Board to hold two meetings in a week, as was the custom.

The petitioner had complained to the court about the non-convening of the board meetings.
