India's GDP up at 9.6 pc for 06-07

New Delhi, Jan 31: The country's gross domestic product (GDP) for 2006-07 was today revised up to 9.6 per cent from 9.4 per cent, according to official estimates.

The high growth rate was achieved due to rapid growth in transport, storage and communication (16.6 per cent), financing, insurance, real estate and business services (13.9 per cent), manufacturing (12 per cent), trade, hotel and restaurants (8.5 per cent), community, social and personal services (6.9 per cent), electricity, gas and water supply (6 per cent) and mining and quarrying (5.7 per cent). Agricultural output was put at 3.8 per cent.

The national income was estimated at Rs 25,30,494 crore during the year against Rs 28,70,750 crore in 2005-06, a rise of 15.9 per cent.
