Chennai, Jan 31 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today announced that the Crime Branch CID police would probe into the death of a nurse at the residence of businessman Nagesh, a close associate of the Chief Minister's son M K Azhagiri in Madurai, though preliminary investigations revealed that it was a case of suicide.

Replying to a special 'calling attention' motion in the Assembly, Public Works and Law Minister Duraimurugan said investigations by the local police revealed that the nurse Karpagavalli, deputed to take care of Nagesh's mother at his residence in TVS Nagar, had committed suicide by hanging following, unrequited love.

He said the post-mortem report also confirmed that there was no injury on her body, except the marks of hanging, and her parents also did not raise any suspicion about her death.

However, to probe further, the case would be transferred to the Crime Branch CID police, the Minister said.

Karpagavalli's lover Durairaj, a driver, had been arrested on the charge of driving her to commit suicide on January 29 and remanded him to custody.

Mr Duraimurugan said Karpagavalli, a 20-year-old Dalit girl, working in a private hospital, had been sent as home nurse to take care of Nagesh's mother on January 21 and since then, she had been staying in his house.

On January 27, she had gone out and made a call from a public telephone booth at 0930 hrs. After returning, she had gone to the bathroom. When she did not come out for a long time, those who were in the house broke open the door and found her hanging using her 'dupatta', (scraf) he said.
