Contract labour laws in for liberalisation: Govt panel
New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) The contract labour laws should be liberalised but with a quid pro quo of an unemployment insurance mechanism, National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) Chairman Arjun Sengupta said today.
''We have come to the findings from empirical evidence that the inflexible labour laws have not helped the workers and hence these should be liberalised,'' Dr Sengupta told the 8th Editor's Conference on Social Issues.
He said the Commission would discuss with the trade unions and the employers the whole proposal of liberalisation, including the liberalisation of contract labour laws, before coming out with its Report by February-end.
He said there should also be a national fund for the unorganised sector on the pattern of NABARD.
Dr Sengupta said the Standing Committee on Labour had unanimously accepted the Commission's recommendations on the Social Sector Bill that would benefit the poor.
