Congress thanks TN Govt for assuring action against banned outfits

Chennai, Jan 31 (UNI) TNCC President M Krishnasamy today thanked the Tamil Nadu Government for its decision to take action against those who express support to proscribed organisations like the LTTE, under the the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

In a statement here, he said after he wrote to the Chief Minister and the Congress Legislators raised the issue in the Assembly, the Government had warned action against those who express support to the banned outfits.

Thanking the Chief Minister, he said the Congress workers and general public believed that the Government, after the announcement, would definitely initiate action against those who offered support to LTTE in any form.

The Government, following pressure from the Congress, had announced yesterday that expression of support to banned outfits like the LTTE in any form would be an offence under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

After a detailed discussion whether to enact a special legislation to curb expression of support to banned organisations, it was decided to invoke the existing act, Public Works and Law Minister Duraimurugan had announced in the Assembly yesterday.
