Cold wave, primary school children exempted from attendance

Chandigarh, Jan 31 (UNI) In view of the extreme cold wave sweeping the state, the Punjab government today exempted children of all government and private primary schools from attending school.

The exemption order applicable for children of Class I to V would come into effect tomorrow and would be effective for a week.

Directions to this effect were issued by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to the state Chief Secretary.

An official spokesman however clarified that teachers of these schools would report for duty as usual. Likewise, the clerical staff too has not been granted this exemption.
