North 24 Parganas administration orders culling of chickens

Barasat, Jan 30 (UNI) The North 24 Parganas district administration today ordered culling of all chickens in the areas where birds were dying of unnatural causes.

District Magistrate P K Misra said a number of teams had been sent to the different areas of the Bangaon and Basirhat subdivisions.

He added that the inclement weather, with gusty winds and heavy showers, was creating problems for the culling teams.

Meanwhile, medical teams arrived at the Solua village under Baduria police station and some areas under the Haroa police station and disposed of several birds.

The Municipality authorities, of the Kanchrapara area under Beejpur police station, had also ordered culling of chickens in the areas under six of its wards, the Municipality Chairman said.

However, the existence of bird flu in North 24 Parganas was yet to be confirmed, Mr Mishra said, adding that at least 72 blood samples were sent to the High Security Animal Diseases Laboratory at Bhopal for tests.
