Kamal Haasan ambassador for free heart surgery project in TN

Chennai, Jan 30 (UNI) Versatile actor Kamal Haasan today initiated a project for performing free heart surgeries on 125 poor children from Kerala and Tamil Nadu by becoming its ambassador for raising funds.

A musical concert by Kollywood and Mollywood singers and composers would be held here on February 24 as part of raising funds for the project, being undertaken by the World Malayalee Council in association with the Madras Medical Mission Hospital, reputed for paediatric heart surgery.

Mr Haasan launched ticket sale for the concert at a function here, today, during which he also received a cheque for Rs 25 lakh from Mr Lal John, Senior General Manager (Personnel and Administration) of the Malayala Manorama, as the newspaper's contribution for the project.

The project, titled 'Hridayapoorvam', was originally launched by Malayala Manorama in Kerala in 1999 and had undertaken free heart surgeries on 260 poor children.

The World Malayalee Council proposed to raise Rs 1 crore to meet the expenses for the cardiac surgeries, to be performed at the Madras Medical Mission Hospital here.
