Civic chief presents Rs 2790 cr budget for Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, Jan 30 (UNI) Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner I P Gautam today presented a Rs 2790.17-crore civic budget for the year 2008-09.
Following abolition of octroi, which was the main source of income, the civic body now has to rely chiefly on property, water and land tax. Besides, the state government's grant in lieu of octroi and the non-tax revenue income have been estimated at Rs 937.71-crore and Rs 96-crore respectively.
The Commissioner, speaking to reporters later, informed that various developmental projects, mainly under the Central Government's Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Development Mission, have been proposed in the budget.
To meet the rising demand for drinking water, Rs 122-crore have been allocated for such projects. For the ambitious BRTS project, aimed at easing the traffic problem in the city, Rs 335-crore has been allocated.
