Punjab seeks central compensation for potato growers
Chandigarh, Jan 29 (UNI) The Punjab government has sought central compensation for the potato growers whose crop has been effected by ground frost following the intense cold wave that is sweeping across the state.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will personally take up the matter with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and seek adequate compensation, official sources here today stated.
The state government has already directed the deputy commissioners to get special 'girdawaris' done through the revenue department to assess the actual loss to the patato crop by the frost.Several hectarces of the crop particularly in the Doaba belt has been effected due to the cold weather conditions.
