UD Minister takes stock of DDA activities

New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy today took stock of activities of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in a meeting of the Consultative Committee of Parliament attached to his Ministry.

At the meeting, members, cutting across party lines, stressed the need for appropriate and timely compensation for the farmers whose land had been acquired by the DDA.

The members felt that as per the policy they should be given alternative residential plots in the same area. The DDA informed the Members that compensatory plot allotments were being done in Rohini and Narela and acquisition of suitable land for residential plots in Dwarka is under process. The Urban Development Minister urged the DDA to clear all pending applications in the matter within the next three months.

Mr Reddy thanked the MPs for their support to the Government on the stand taken in passing the special law last year.

At the meeting, chaired by Urban Development Minister, and attended by senior officials of the Ministry, the DDA, the NBCC, the NDMC, the MCD and the CPWD, DDA Vice chairman Dinesh Rai gave the members an overview of activities of the authority.

Among the DDA's future plans are sports complexes at Narela, Rohini, Dwarka and Karol Bagh/Rajinder Nagar/Patel Nagar. The DDA has also been assigned the development of the Games village for the 2010 Commonwealth Games and development of competitive venues for Table Tennis, Badminton, Squash and Archery.

MPs who attended today's meeting included Mr Sajjan Kumar, AH Khan Chowdhury and Milind Murli Deora ( all Congress), Lalmuni Chaubey (BJP), Swadesh Chakraborty (CPI-M), Ravi Prakash Verma from Lok Sabha and Karnendu Bhattacharjee (Congress) and, Ram Narain Sahu (SP).
