Media has failed to grasp vitality of Indian politics: Writer
Bangalore, Jan 28 (UNI) The media has failed to properly understand the vitality and vibrancy of Indian politics and is content in just ridiculing or pampering politicians, Jnanpeeth award winning writer U R Anantha Murthy said today.
Speaking at a media workshop organised by the Karnataka Media Academy here he said it was important for media persons to be curious about the politicians and not just stick to their 'fixed mindset'.
"You will not find such vibrant polity anywhere in the world.
Anyone from any level of social standing can make it to the top in politics in this country and this cannot happen anywhere else. You (the media) have failed to understand its vitality," he stated.
He regretted that only vernacular media had been sensitive in highlighting the culture of the land and report the heppenings within the society where it was being circulated, while the English had totally ignored this aspect.
"If a newspaper or a TV channel cannot depict the region or highlight the culture it becomes useless and irrelevant. If you write only about the cosmopolitan world, who will write about our villages and the problems faced by the people in remote areas" he asked.
