Experts deliberate on fate of Gujarati language
Ahmedabad, Jan 28 (UNI) Four experts and as many as 70 teachers of Gujarati language and literature from nine universities of Gujarat and Maharashtra got together at a one-day seminar on ''Linguistics and other Disciplines,'' here today.
The seminar, organised by F D Arts College and commerce, deliberated on issues and problems pertaining to teaching and learning of language, particularly Gujarati.
The seminar aims to create awareness about the importance of linguistics in study of language and literature. It also aims at clearing some misconceptions about Gujarati linguistics.
Convenor of the seminar, Prof Pinki Pandya said the seminar, which is being organised for the first time in Gujarat, is expected to give an impetus to the scientific study of language.
It also discussed the current anamolies in the syllabus of the subject in universities of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
''The seminar aims to prepare a groundwork for future research in various areas of linguistics entailing cyber culture, problems faced by overseas Gujaratis in learning language of their ancestors, preparing learning softwares on Gujarati language and machine translation and Gujarati spell check,'' Prof Pandya said.
