Election Commissioners review poll preparedness in Tripura

New Delhi, Jan 28 : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami and Election Commissioners S Y Qureshi and Navin Chawla on Monday reviewed the preparations for the February 23 Assembly polls in Tripura.

They asked the appointed observers to ensure free and fair elections in the state.

Fifty-two general observers and eight expenditure observers will reach the allotted constituencies before the last day of filing nominations and will stay there till the end of the Assembly polls.

The observers have specially been asked to tour their respective constituencies and build up confidence among weaker sections.

A single-phase Assembly poll in Tripura will be held on February 23. Out of 60 seats, 20 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes and seven for the Scheduled Castes.

The filing of nomination papers will begin on January 30 and will close on February 6. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 9.

The counting of votes would take place on March 7.

The current term of the Tripura Assembly ends on March 19.
