DUTA slams threat by former BJP MP to University Vice Chancellor
New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) today strongly condemned the statement by former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti announcing a 'fatwa' against Vice Chancellor Deepak Paintal.
Dr Vedanti has reportedly sought beheading of Dr Paintal and cutting out of his tongue.
''While Dr Vedanti has every right to raise a debate on the contents of the syllabi, he has no legal and moral authority to impose his viewpoint on Delhi University. It is only the Academic Council and Executive Council of the University which devise and revise the syllabi,'' a statement, signed by DUTA president Aditya Narayan Mishra and secretary Dinesh Adlakha said.
It said the the former BJP MP ''clearly reflects a behaviour that belongs only to 'Taliban culture' and not to the civilised society.
Noting such statements should not only be condemned but prosecuted, it called on the University Grants Commission, Union Human Resource Ministry and the government to initiate legal action, than being ''a mute spectators.'' UNI VD SB KP1939
