Woman, toddler burnt alive for dowry

Gorakhpur, Jan 27: Police today arrested a woman for allegedly burning her daughter-in-law and granddaughter alive at Khorabar area here allegedly.

The incident occurred at Nauva Awal village late last night, where a 22-year-old woman and her one-and-a-half year child were set on fire while they were sleeping in their room, police said.

According to the deceased's parents, their daughter's in-laws dowsed her and the toddler with kerosene and set them ablaze.

They also charged them with constantly abusing and assaulting their daughter for dowry.

A case of dowry death was registered and the accused was sent behind the bars, whereas her husband was absconding.
