Businessman arrested for circulating fake notes
Sambalpur, Jan 27 (UNI)Sambalpur town police today arrested a Rourkela based businessman on the charge of possesing and circulating fake currency notes.
Acting on a tip off a police team arrested one Jagdish Aagarwal while he was trying to purchase gold ornaments from Biju Jewellers here and seized currency notes worth Rs 1,04,500 from his possession.
Police swung into action after the jewellry shop suspected the notes to be fake and informed the police.
Later police seized all the 209 notes of 500 rupees denomination.
From the preliminary investigation, all the notes seemed to be duplicate, the police said.
Agrawal who has a cloth store in the new market of Rourkela could n't give any satisfactory reply as to why he purchased the ornaments worth lakhs of rupees.
Police also seized two credit cards of HDFC and ICICI banks and an ATM card of Indian Bank.
A report from Rourkela said a Police team was searching the house of Agarwal located at daily market area under the Plant site police station of Rourkela till late this evening.
