Eight were charred to death in a mishap near Mangalore
Mangalore, Jan 26(UNI) In a gruesome incident eight persons were burnt alive and another two received serious injuries when a car in which they were traveling hit against an electric pole in the wee hours at Kallappu near here today.
According to police sources the mishap took place when a group of 11 labourers all came from Bihar for livelihood, were charred to death when their vehicle hit a road-side electric pole in the National Highway number 17 this morning.
They were traveling in a Maruthi Omni van.
The police said that due to the impact of the accident the entire vehicle got electrocuted and caught fire and majority of the inmates except driver and other two burnt alive within seconds of catching of fire.
While one of the inmate in the car who jumped out of the burning vehicle managed to escape without hurt. The injured two were admitted into district hospital in Mangalore.
The bodies of the victims which were beyond recognition shifted to Hospital mortuary, the sources added.
