Over one thousand detained during Bihar bandh
Patna, Jan 25 (UNI) More than one thousand agitators were detained during todays opposition-sponsored Bihar bandh in protest against the recent police firing in Kahalgaon of Bhagalpur district.
Leaders of RJD, Congress, LJP, CPI, CPI(M), NCP and Samata Party took out processions separately from their party offices, demonstrated at the main Dakbunglow road and blocked the area.
RJD state president Abdul Bari Siddiqui, MP Ramkripal Yadav, former ministers Shyam Rajak and Ramchandra Purvey, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) president Sadanand Singh, MLC Mahachandra Prasad Singh, BPCC chief spokesperson Prem Chandra Mishra, LJP state convener Pashupati Kumar Paras, MLC Sanjay Singh, former MP Dr Arun Kumar and NCP state president Upendra Kushwaha courted arrest during their bandh call.
Business establishments on the main roads remained closed while shops on other roads of the state capital were open during the day.
Vehicular traffic remained thin. Private educational institutions remained closed while government offices functioned normally.
