MTPG to stage hunger strike in Meghalaya
Shillong, Jan 25 (UNI) The Maitshaphrang Tourism Promotion Group (MTPG) has decided to hold a one-hour hunger strike here tomorrow in protest against the Congress government's ''adamant'' attitude to release fund, sanctioned by the Union government.
In a statement here yesterday, MTPG chairman Michael N Syiem said the Union Tourism Ministry had sanctioned Rs 5.23 lakh as second instalment for eco-tourism at the Lumpongdeng Island, Umiam Lake.
The organisations has been demanding release of the amount for nearly five years.
'' The Government is yet to consider our request even after numerous written and personal requests to the State Tourism Department, '' Mr Syiem said.
An ultimatum was submitted to the Tourism department on January 16 to immediately release this amount failing which the MTPG would stage a one-hour hunger strike on January 26.
