Farmers advised to save crops from frost and cold

Hisar, Jan 25 (UNI) The farmers in Haryana, Punjab and the bordering areas of UP and Rajasthan have been advised to irrigate their crops, vegetables and fruit trees for protection against chilly winds and frost.

Farmers have also been advised to protect the crops, vegetables from the cold winds by burning bhusa(chaff) for producing smoke in the direction of the wind. Young fruit plants should be covered with the help of straw or tattered clothes to provide protection from the cold The agri scietists of Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) have advised the farmers to prepare the fields and start the sowing of sunflower even in this extreme cold. If there is attack of blights in potato crop, the farmers should spray the crop with 600 to 800 grams Blitox/ Zyneb /Mankojeb per acre.

If the wheat crop shows yellowish, it may be due to deficiency of zinc and nitrogen, then farmers should spray a mixture of one Kg Zinc Sulphate and five kg Urea with 200 liters of water per acre when the weather gets clear and when it is not windy.

Pointing out that there is possibility of incidence of white rust in mustard crop in these cold conditions, the scientists have asked farmers to monitor the crop and then spray 600 grams Mankojeb/ diathen M-45 in 250 to 300 liters of water per acre.

Farmers are advised to manage animal sheds properly to protect the cattle from the extreme cold. Mix 50 grams of iodized salt and 30 grams mineral mixture per day with animal feed to keep the cattle healthy.
