TN to take steps to protect sports like Jallikattu: Minister
Chennai, Jan 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu would take steps to protect ''heroic sports'' like 'Jallikattu' (taming of bull), State Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister T P M Mohideenkhan told the Assembly today.
The Minister was reacting to a query raised by Congress MLA and Whip S Peter Alphonse during the Question Hour.
Commending the efforts taken by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for helping conduct 'Jallikattu' during Pongal Festival after Supreme Court order, Mr Alphonse wanted to know whether the government would bring in a special law to protect this sport.
In his response, Mr Mohideenkhan said the member has come out with a good suggestion and he would consult the Chief Minister to take necessary steps on the issue.
