Pakistan High Commissioner meets Rajnath

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik today called on BJP President Rajnath Singh to discuss issues of interest to India and Pakistan while agreeing to the need for the two sides to resolve the issues through peaceful dialogue process.

During the hour long meeting with the Pakistan High Commissioner, Mr Singh said the BJP believed that a stable and peaceful Pakistan was necessary for India and it was for this very reason Atal Bihari Vajpayee's NDA regime had initated programmes to improve the relationship between the two neighbours. He expressed the party's condolences over the assassination of Pakistan People's Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto in a terrorist attack to the High Commissioner, party sources said.

Mr Singh also conveyed to Pakistan on the need to 'introspect' why the talks had not reached the 'status of fruition' despite five decades of dialogues between two neighbouring countries.
