'Lack of agricultural policy, reason behind farmers dismal state'
Lucknow, Jan 24 (UNI) Principal opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) today said the lack of any agricultural policy by the Uttar Pradesh government was the reason for the dismal condition of the state farmers.
''Farmers are commiting suicide under debt burdens...all this is happening due to lack of any agricultural policy in the state,'' SP state unit spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said here.
On his visit to the drought-hit Bundelkhand region, UP Governor T V Rajeswar also accepted that farmers were dying of hunger in the state, the SP leader underlined, adding ''it is a matter of shame for the government.'' ''Ms Mayawati has shown her duty by demanding a package from the Centre for the drought affected region...instead of providing manure, water and electricity facilities to the farmer, she is busy installing her statues and getting constructed parks and memmorials from the commanman earnings,'' Mr Chaudhary charged.
